Summer Scalloping

With the heat I have been running alot of scallop charters and also getting the family out quit a bit. It's a great way to stay cool and enjoy the summer on the water here in Florida. The season run into late September and the numbers are very good this season. Typically the size of the scallops are smaller at the start of the season, but not this year. I have'nt even seen a small one yet. Grab your mask and fins and head out before I get them all.

As the August full moon gets closer we are hoping to see an increase in redfish schools along our coast. If your looking for snook, look no furthur. We have more of them on our flats and along the coastal islands than I have ever seen. Im thinking we are going to grow into a great snook fishier in the very near future.

Scalloping Season

June 25th marks the start of the 2011 Gulf of Mexico scallop season. If you wanna see crazy, go to one of the many boat ramps along the nature coast and watch the weekend warriors in action. There will be thousands of folks launching their boats and heading out to the flat in search of a limit of scallops. Its a great way to get out and enjoy the summer and stay cool doing it. A legal dive flag and a set of snorkeling gear is all you need to get in on the action.

Tarpon season is in full swing and most of the action is along the beaches north of Tampa Bay. My clients are doing well on big fish by casting small crabs in the path of traveling schools. Most are averaging in the 130 pounds class but we have hooked into some much larger fish upwards of 200 pounds. Tarpon of that size generally make quick work of a rookie angler and after just a few jumps, get free and continue on there way.

REDFISH TIME

The reds are getting thick on the flats finally here around the Ozello area. My Cleints are getting good numbers of them during half day charters. We are also seeing alot of big snook and picking up a few here and there. As the water temps climb, we will see the reds school up more on the outside islands along the coast. Those 30 fish days are soon to come.

On a side note: the boaw fishing action is tops. We are killin the big mullet around the islands on high tides with the stick and string. Shooting over 200 times each during a trip is good fun but takes its toll on an old man. If you havent tried bowfishing, add it to your bucket list. Its awesome!

TARPON SEASON IS HEATING UP

Just got back from a run to the Ten Thousand Islands with a few buddys to target snook and tarpon. Very bad east winds set us packing after only one day in Everglades City. Made a quick trip back to Tarpon Springs and the big tarpon put on a show. We cast to dozens of pods cruising the beachs and flats and then left them to get hooked up with some redfish and snooks action. After getting our fill, we trolled into some back creeks for some of the best bowfishing action I have seen to date. All in all it was a cool 3 day adventure spent with some good freinds. One thing to remember, the Everglades snook population is hurt bad. FS Magazine says the realestate market will come back before the Glades snook population does....ouch. May want to look else where for your linesider fix.

Summer Time

Well, its been quit awhile since Ive been on here to report. Never been so busy in my career as an outfitter as I am now so heres whats up in the world of Deep South Outfitter and Capt Billy Henderson.

Summer heat it setting in and with it, the big tarpon migration moves into the area. Im seeing alot of new fish move in daily and my clients are getting some hook ups on plenty of tarpon. We will continue to stay on them till mid July I expect as long as it doesnt get to hot.

Bowfishing has become the new craze with my clients. We are hitting the gulf around the coastal islands and shooting hundreds of times a day at mullet and rays, and even a few sheepshead are mixed in. A lot of fun and great action when the redfish are not biting.

As summer wears on we will get into the scalloping season. Folks from all over the state will invade Citrus County and counties to our north in search is possibly the best tasting sea creature alive. Great summer fun and an even better way to beat the heat.

August 15th marks the opener of the 2011 alligator season and Deep South Outfitter is geared up and ready. With over 40 cleints scheduled and ready for action, its sure to be a success. Its one of my favorite seasons to guide and I cant wait for it to get here.

Osceola Time

Spring 2011 is coming fast and the Toms will start gobbling as it approaches. Im seeing large groups of mature gobblers as usual so its bound to be a top notch season once again. Im going to be featuring real mounted hen decoys this season.There sure to have to ole Toms running in. Those foam and plastic decoys just dont match up in color to the real thing. I was glad when winter was over but now Im starting to second guess myself. Its hot hot hot. On a good note, the big redfish are off the hook. Actually there on the hook. The summer schools are movin in and my clients are hammering them. We are boating 20 to 30 every outting and it is getting better daily.

Tarpon are also in full swing. We are putting some monsters in the air on the morning bite on jigs. The largest boated so far was 140 pounder but we have been beat up by much bigger ones.

Even with the heat I've still been running hog hunters. Daylight and dark has been the only times we are seeing movement. My hunters typically get shoots daily but its slow.

Alligator season is fast approaching and I can hardly wait. The state drawing has messed up as usual so they are having to have the draw again. Its put me 3 weeks behind with setting hunting dates with my clients but it will all work out.

Tarpon Time

Small pods of Tarpon are starting to move in on the flats off Crystal River and Homosassa. Starting charters this week and the action is sure to get hot as summer temps set in. I for one am ready for the wind and rains to move on. I've had enough.

Spring turkeys and warming water

Just about to finish up with spring tukey hunters. Had a lady hunter bag a trophy Tom today that we've been after for a few seasons now. Great bird and a great hunt. 2 hunters to go and the Osceola turkey season in central Florida is over.

After turkeys Deep South Outfitters gets back to putting clients on big wild hogs and chasing trophy tarpon. Im ready for warm weather and some summer flats action. We'll be doing alot of filming of the tarpon action this summer so keep an eye out for me on your favorite saltwater TV show.

IT'S ON!! The spring fish migration is starting. Been keepin an eye on the tarpon and snook movements. Seeing the snook starting to move out to there feeding grounds. Tarpon are headed north and we will start to catch them on artificials soon. Hope to produce some great TV show action for all of Addictive Fishing's viewers so you guys watch for that.

Hog hunting action is good as big pigs keep coming to the feeders. Any archery hunters are urged to come on. Nows the time to get that trophy boar or a nice Bar-B-Q hog for the summer cook-outs.

About to finish up with our spring turkey clients. We have had an awesome season with almost every hunter harvesting their gobbler.

The tarpon migration is moving our way and soon I will be putting my clients on big poon. Until then its stay after the turkeys and hogs with my hunters.
